Praised in the Village Voice for the "shimmering electronic textures" of his music, Douglas Geers has written for a wide variety of styles and mediums, including concert music, pop songs, television and film scores, electronica, and computer music. Geers was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where studied at Xavier University (B.A. in English and Music) and the College-Conservatory of Music (Master of Music). Currently he lives in New York City and teaches music at Columbia University, where he is completing his doctorate in music composition.

Geers' music has been performed worldwide, including concerts in the U.S., Canada, Scotland, Greece, Hong Kong, Finland, Uruguay, and China, and numerous radio broadcasts. He has worked extensively in the field of computer music, achieving many honors, including five consecutive years of concert performances at the annual International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), a leading festival in the field. In addition, his music has been performed and commissioned by various artists, including Ensemble Fa, Speculum Musicae, ComposersCollaborative, the Cincinnati Contemporary Music Ensemble, the American Composers Alliance, MANY, Second Generation, SEAMUS, Steve Cohn, Dan Thompson, Craig Preibe, Maja Cerar, and Robert Garcia.

Geers is also Co-Director of MANY (Musicians and Artists of New York), an organization devoted to performances utilizing multiple media. He also works as Associate Producer for CCi (ComposersCollaborative, Inc.), is a member of the Columbia New Music Ensemble and the Terry Pender Virtual Orchestra, and is a founding member of the composer's collective Fuse.
